Dear GES Families:

It is my pleasure to welcome you back to Gilford Elementary School for the 2017-18 school year! Our dedicated staff works very hard to meet the individual needs of all learners, and maintains personal connections with their families.  You should receive a letter from your child’s teacher prior to the beginning of the school year.

The summer renovation project at Gilford Elementary School is on schedule. Our custodial staff has been working hard this August cleaning our school and teachers will be in shortly to put classrooms back together. I am amazed at how efficiently everything comes together for the start of school.

We truly believe that communication is the key to a successful educational experience. You will receive paperwork the first day of school that will ask for updated phone numbers and email addresses. Please be sure all the information is correct so that the Main Office can direct notices and phone calls to you.

Bus routes will be posted in the paper and on our website. The bus company’s phone number is 524-1787 if you need assistance regarding student pick-up or drop-off. For those families who plan to transport their children, please have them arrive by 8:30.  Adult supervision will begin at 8:10. We will again be distributing Student Pickup IDs to every family. We are hoping that families will place these Pickup ID badges in their vehicles when picking up their children for a quicker dismissal. Please read the bus loop, parking and student drop off and pick up guidelines provided in your information packet.

We invite you to become an active participant in our school community through volunteering, joining our PTA, or attending and supporting school events. Our PTA meetings are held on the first Tuesday of each month in our GES Library.

Please note that we have an updated policy for volunteers. All volunteers will need to be fingerprinted prior to volunteering in our schools including chaperoning field trips.  The process will be for a volunteer to be fingerprinted and have a photo identification taken by the school district. Once the background check is complete, a volunteer photo identification will be distributed. The volunteer will need to bring the photo ID to the school every time they want to volunteer in a Gilford School. We will have a grace period this first year. We will use November 1, 2017 as a date for all volunteers to be approved.  We have scheduled dates of August 14th and 23rd from 9:00-1:00PM at the SAU office (2 Belknap Mountain Road) to be fingerprinted. We have also scheduled August 15th and 24th   from 12:00-3:00PM. Please call the SAU office at 527-9215 to check on availability and to schedule an appointment. Please bring a current photo ID to the SAU on the day of fingerprinting.

Thank you for your continued support of our school. I look forward to seeing you at Open House on August 29th from 5:00-6:00PM.
