Dear GES Families:

It’s the most wonderful time of the year….when we welcome our learners to Gilford Elementary School for 2018-19 school year!  Our dedicated staff works very hard to meet the individual needs of all learners, and maintains personal connections with our families. You should have received a letter from your child’s teacher prior to the beginning of the school year. Important Updates:

There were some exciting projects happening over the summer. Every classroom has a fresh coat of paint and our Learning Commons (formerly known as the library) has some new furniture, bookshelves and newly painted walls. Also, our front office was renovated to provide a more secure entry into our school. Come and check it out during our annual Open House on August 28th from 5:00-6:00pm.

The most exciting project, for me personally, is the construction of our very own Outdoor Learning Center complete with an evaporator to make our own maple

syrup! A huge thank you to Jason Drouin for volunteering to build it and PTA for funding the entire project. The Gilford Rotary spent 4 hours this past Saturday staining the boards for the building.  The project will be complete before this year’s sugaring season (early March). I am so excited for all of you to check it out!

We truly believe that communication is the key to a successful educational experience. You will receive paperwork the first day of school that will ask for updated phone numbers and email addresses. Please be sure all the information is correct so that the Main Office can direct notices and phone calls to you.

Bus routes have been posted outside the front doors of the school. The bus company’s phone number is 524-1787 if you need assistance regarding student pick-up or drop-off. For those families who plan to transport their children, please arrive by 8:30.  Adult supervision will begin at 8:10. We will again be distributing Student Pickup IDs to every family. We are hoping that families will place these Pickup ID badges in their vehicles when picking up their children for a quicker dismissal. When using the parent pick up line, please do not get out of your car and remember to pull all the way up to the line.  Please read the bus loop, parking and student drop off and pick up guidelines provided in your information packet that is distributed at Open House.

We invite you to become an active participant in our school community through volunteering, joining our PTA, or attending and supporting school events.

Please note that all volunteers will need to be fingerprinted prior to volunteering in our schools including chaperoning field trips.  The process for volunteering includes fingerprints and attending an orientation provided by the school district. Once the background check is complete, a volunteer photo identification will be distributed. The volunteer will need to wear the photo ID to the school and on field trips. Please call the SAU office at 527-9215 to check on fingerprinting dates. Please bring a current photo ID to the SAU on the day of fingerprinting. If you have already been through the process, you will be asked to sign an electronic affidavit.

Thank you for your continued support of our school. I look forward to seeing you at Gilford Old Home Day on August 25th and Open House on August 28th from 5:00-6:00 PM.
