Dear GES Families:

Congratulations to the second grade class that held a yard sale this past Saturday and raised $800 for Gilford Got Lunch!  The learners have been working with a unit on money. They were introduced to different bills, and worked to solve word problems involving the total value of a group of bills. They worked on finding different coin combinations for the same value, and practiced finding the fewest number of coins to make a given value. They practiced using different addition and subtraction strategies to make change from one dollar. This work helped them to prepare for the Yard Sale this weekend.

The 4th grade chorus did an amazing job at their Dig It! performance and at the monster chorus performance last week. There  will be no more full band or band lessons for the remainder of the year.

Looking ahead to this week:

  • Our spring book fair continues this week.  We will have a family cookout on May 22nd from 4:00-5:30PM. We will be serving up free hot dogs, chips and water.

  • On Tuesday, May 22nd from 5:30-7:00, the Gilford school community will come together at Gilford Elementary School to celebrate the School District’s partners and to showcase student work made possible by a community that cares about kids. The participants will have the opportunity to visit learner exhibits and hear more about the Gilford Educational Endowment Foundation and their support in providing valuable resources to the Gilford School District. This exciting, free evening event will showcase elementary through high school student-generated work with the community.

  • Thanks to a generous donation our entire school will see an Extreme Science presentation on May 23rd. The presentation will demonstrate various scientific concepts, including motion, energy, inertia, balance, fire, electricity and others, by conducting experiments. Among the highlights of the program, Hagerman turns a bicycle wheel into a gyroscope, creates a human sling shot from a bungee cord, turns a piece of cloth into fire-resistant material and changes solids into liquids. Hagerman also emphasizes the benefits of respect, responsibility and safety in all facets of life and draws clear comparisons between science and magic.

  • GES SPIRIT DAY- This Friday is DRESS UP Day. I am looking forward to seeing everyone looking sharp this Friday.

I hope to see you at our family events this week!
