Gilford Elementary School is home to a fully operational maple sugaring shack. Nestled next to our Imagination Station, the Sugar Shack serves as a beacon of hands-on learning and community engagement. More than just a maple syrup production facility, it symbolizes the sweet intersection of education and nature. Our learners, from kindergarten through 4th grade, actively participate in every step of the maple syrup-making process, from tapping trees and boiling sap to the Community Pancake Breakfast. This immersive, place-based learning approach not only instills a sense of environmental stewardship but also fosters a deep understanding of the rich history and traditions that shape our state, region, and community. The Sugar Shack plays an integral role in cultivating well-rounded learners who not only excel academically but also appreciate the importance of sustainability and local heritage. Join us on this educational journey where every drop of maple syrup tells a story of growth, discovery, and community spirit.
