This Wednesday and Thursday we welcome staff back. On Thursday morning from 8:00-9:00am we invite you to an open house to meet the teachers and pick up an information packet. If you can not attend, the information will go home with your child on the first day of school which is Tuesday, September 3rd. School starts at 8:30am. Kindergarteners will be dismissed at 11:30am on September 3rd through September 6th.

This year our school will focus on the theme “Making connections through our journey together”.  We will begin by making connections with books. Here are a few tips for reading success.

Want to spend time with your youngster, build reading skills and help them to love books? You can do all three when you read aloud. Here are suggestions:

  • Read regularly: Try to read to your child every day. You might aim for 10-15 minutes of bedtime reading for a peaceful end to the day. Bring along a book, and read during a  sibling’s sports practice, or curl up together with a book when you get home from work.

  • Take turns choosing books: Your youngster may want to hear old favorites again and again. That’s fine! When it’s your turn to pick, add new titles and a variety, such as nonfiction or poetry.

  • Let them participate: Ask your child to turn the pages while you read. Also, they can finish sentences that rhyme or fill in words they know. Go slowly so they have time to understand the story and look at the illustrations.

Important information:

The Gilford Food Service would like to make you aware of a couple of updates for the new school year 2019-2020. The first update is that Governor Sununu has signed into law SB 82 which has been called the “the Breakfast Bill”. What this bill does is after the completion of the free and reduced application, if the student is granted “reduced” status, he or she will receive breakfast at no cost and lunch will be charged at .40 per meal. The second, would be to make you aware of a pricing increase for 2019-2020 lunch meals only. The increase was voted upon by the School Board at their November 5, 2018 meeting and are as follows. The Elementary School lunch price is now $2.50 and for the High School/Middle School, the price will be $3.25. If you have any questions, please contact Food Service Director, Jonathan Dupuis, at jdupuis@sau73.org. Here is the free and reduced form for breakfast/lunch.
